Rare series of peasant scenes from Tyrol and Bavaria, carried out by the Paris-based artist Théodore Valério (1819-79), who prepared a number of "memoires" of the Habsburg Empire in his day. Altough the plates are not signed, an entry in the publisher's catalogue, the style and chosen themes point to Valério. The set features men and women in traditional costume from both rural and more urban backgrounds, addressing pious themes including families studying the Bible, along with more lively motifs of small children playing with dogs, chamois hunters stalking prey, and friends gathering at a tavern.

Wear to spine ends and corners; somewhat rubbed. Some foxing to plates.
